The problem

Market intelligence in this industry still runs on manual labour.

Every reporting period, someone on your team does this by hand. It shouldn't take a person — it should take a login.

What most teams do today

Reports are published on different schedules, in different formats, across a fragmented set of state offices. Reading them, matching carrier names that don't quite match, and turning it into something usable is slow and easy to get wrong.

  • Hours of analyst time reading reports by hand, every period
  • The same carrier appears under three slightly different names
  • No history — once a figure is overwritten, the old version is gone
  • No way to defend a number to a manager or reinsurer

What Surplyst does instead

Surplyst archives each public report, extracts the figures with tested, source-specific parsers, and resolves carriers to one identity — with the evidence attached.

  • One consistent view across states, updated as validated reports are published
  • Carrier identities matched across sources, with a visible confidence score
  • A permanent, versioned history — see what changed, and when
  • Every figure carries its source, period, and confidence
The product

Built to be trusted, not just glanced at.

One clean view, not a stack of PDFs

Public market reports, archived unchanged and normalised into one carrier-by-line-of-business panel per state.

Real entity resolution

The same carrier filed under different names in different places is matched to one identity — by NAIC code where the source prints one — with every alias it was matched from and a confidence score for the match.

A permanent, versioned history

Nothing is silently overwritten. Corrections create a new version, so you can see exactly what a source said at any point in time.

Who it's for

Wholesale brokers and MGAs.

Teams that spend real analyst hours each month compiling carrier market-share data — or rely on free tools built by the brokers they compete with for carrier relationships.

If you've ever been asked "who's actually winning share in this line right now?" and the honest answer was "let me check a few PDFs and get back to you", this is built for you.

Why not just use a free tool?

  • Today's snapshot, never a defensible history
  • No visibility into how carrier names were matched
  • Copy-paste into your own systems, every time
  • Often built by parties with a commercial interest in the same market
Methodology

Built for decisions you can defend.

Immutable archive

Every source report is stored unchanged, with its hash and retrieval date, before a single figure is extracted.

Source rights reviewed

Each source's terms of use are reviewed and recorded before it is collected, and reports a publisher marks confidential are never used.

Honest gaps

A missing row is never treated as zero activity, and nothing is estimated or back-filled.

Aggregate data only

Public carrier-level and market-level statistics only — never insured-level or confidential policy data.

FAQ

Common questions

Last reviewed October 14, 2026.

What is Surplyst?

Surplyst tracks surplus lines carrier premium and market share by state and line of business for wholesale brokers and MGAs, from public state filings.

Who founded Surplyst?

Surplyst was founded in 2026 by Rivac AI Labs, an independent AI and data engineering team. Learn more at rivaclabs.com.

Where does the data come from?

From publicly available reports published by state surplus lines offices and regulators. Each report is archived and every figure keeps a reference to it. A source is only used after its terms of use have been reviewed.

How current is the data?

Each state publishes on its own schedule — monthly, quarterly, or annually. Surplyst checks every source automatically each day and adds new periods once the new report has been parsed and validated; the coverage section shows what was added in the last 7 days. Every figure shows its report period, so you always know how recent it is.

Is there an API or export?

API access is on the roadmap for the Growth plan. Carrier alerts and a weekly email digest are already included in every plan. To protect the licensed data, the dashboard does not offer copy, print or CSV export.

Is Surplyst affiliated with any broker or carrier?

No. Surplyst is an independent data provider and is not owned by, funded by, or affiliated with any broker, MGA, or carrier.

Which states are covered?

22 states: Texas, Florida, California, New York, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Alabama, Kansas, Mississippi, Minnesota, Montana, Oregon, Oklahoma, Colorado, Tennessee, South Dakota and Wyoming. Louisiana and Arkansas are tracked and added as soon as they publish their first reports. Each state has a free state report, and the dashboard shows exactly which periods have validated data.

What if a figure looks wrong?

Tell us at contact@surplyst.com. We investigate against the archived source, publish a corrected version if needed, and keep the original so the change is visible.

How is billing handled?

By Paddle, our reseller and merchant of record, which handles payment, sales tax and invoices. You can switch plans from your dashboard, and update your card, download invoices or cancel at any time from Manage billing. See the Refund Policy.

Is my information secure?

We store only what's needed to run your account: your email, name, organisation, and billing status. Card details are handled by Paddle and never touch our servers. See the Privacy Policy.
